There were so many nights like this with my babies. Sinking into the night, but holding on just enough to get through.
One really rough night with my son, I blasted Bird and the Bee's Birthday on my headphones. I know the song is probably meant romantically, but it became my mommy anthem.
I originally sketched this with text from the lyrics: Hold On / Hold On. As a finish, I just wanted to leave it pure.
Hi Gina, This is a lovely illustration... imagine your son looking at this illustration when he grows up... he will know how much you love him :)

What a beautiful image, Gina. I am feeling this every night lately. How perfectly you capture that feeling of floating in that space between sleep and wake, and drifting off in peace with baby in arms.

I like the feel of this piece. Really well done. Gouache has always been a hard medium for me. Your colors are just beautiful!

I remember those times! Beautiful, soft, sweet and tender picture.

I can totally relate. I nursed all four of my children, including the twins. So much tenderness, so much insomnia. You beautifully captured the sweetness and sleeplessness of late night feedings.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. This is clearly a very personal painting, and it's nice to see it resonate with other mamas.
