I mailed off my completed Sketchbook Project today - woo! Here's a page where I played a bit with lettering in pen with some colored pencil. There are a few more things to post from this book, coming up this week.
I'm taking a little break from the Sketchbook Project - not long since it's due by the 31st of January. Yikes! I'm trying to get my long-suffering picture book dummy ready to send off for a critique at the NESCBWI conference. I've shared this with lots of fellow illustrators, but never had an editor, agent, or AD look at it. It's really about time. And with that, I'm off to sketch, revise, and sketch some more!
This might be one of my favorite spreads from the book. It's also, chronologically, the last spread. I really tried to have a light touch and leave lots of white space and unresolved details.
Heres a detail:
This one is just gouache and pencil. I have several single pages to fill in plus room to add thumbnail sketches and a little bio on the last page.
Gosh these pages get wrinkly with wet media! It's still too fun to add paint to my book. This is a watercolor wash (brown) with a bit of gouache and pencil.
